Let it Snow! Let it Snow!

1 Dec

Snowflake Pin ImageI’m blown away that the Learned Happiness Facebook page has 102 fans!  When I starting blogging, I never expected anyone to read except maybe a few close friends.  But now, the blog has become a platform for mental health advocacy and a way to stay connected to a variety of people from all over the globe.  I’m so glad I took the plunge and began writing online.

And as promised, I’m giving away a snowflake-inspired crochet craft in celebration.  Snowflakes are my favorite way to decorate for the holidays.  They are inclusive of all the winter holidays, simple, pretty, and easy to make (at least the paper ones are).  If Buddy the Elf came and decked my halls in a flurry of white paper snowflakes, it would seriously be the best Christmas ever.

Snowflakes in progress

I’ve been crocheting, pinning, and starching these lace snowflakes for a week now and I’m in love with the results.  I might need to make a set for my tree! They can hang as ornaments with a hook or ribbon, be strung on a string, or placed as table decorations.

To win the set of three snowflakes, you have three ways to enter.  Do one, do two, do all three.  It’s up to you!

1. Leave me a blog comment telling me what holiday or holidays you celebrate and your favorite tradition.

2. Tweet about the giveaway.  Leave me a comment telling me you tweeted along with your twitter handle.

3. Follow Postpartum Progress on Facebook.  Come back and let me know you did so in a comment.  Santa’s watching, so be good.

Mamas Comfort Camp Turns ONE! A Celebration AND A Giveaway!

15 Mar

***THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED.  Congratulations to Smldada!***

Have you heard about the over 600 members of Mama’s Comfort Camp and the judgement-free culture of support and belonging we’ve cultivated in our Facebook group?  What started as a small group of online friends has blossomed into a once-in-a-lifetime  virtual sisterhood.  And we’re celebrating our one-year-anniversary!

Mama's Comfort Camp

Some very wise mamas have been helping us celebrate by contributing guest posts over at Mamas Comfort Camp, and we held a twitter party on March 10th.  And later today, I’m teaching a short yoga lesson via vlog, so click on over!

And to celebrate here on Learned Happiness, I’m giving away one of my favorite books.  If you know me, it’s no secret that Brene Brown’s books and research have changed my life.  What I didn’t realize about my life was that I’m not so different from everyone else – that shame and insecurity plague every one of us.  That we all just want to be seen, heard, and validated.  And most of all, that when we change who we are to fit what we think others want, we rob ourselves of true happiness.

It’s because of Brene Brown’s books that I’ve become more confident, more courageous, and more authentic.  Her TED Talk on shame pushed me to start blogging and opened up a whole world for me, where writing became therapy and readers became friends.  On a good day, I now believe that I am worthy of love and belonging, no matter what I have accomplished or what has happened to me.  Brene recently sat down with Oprah to share about her newest book, Daring Greatly.  You’re going to love her.

I Thought It Was Just Me

So in the spirit of comforting mothers everywhere, I’m giving away a copy of I Thought It Was Just Me (but it isn’t): Making the Journey from “What Will People Think?” to “I Am Enough.”  All you have to do enter is leave a comment below, telling me how you take care of YOURSELF in these busy days when there is never enough time.  If you struggle with this – then share how you WISH could could take care of yourself.  A daily meditation? An occasional good book? A hot cup of coffee each morning? A deep breath at the end of a long day?

And please know, if you’re a Mama?  You’re wanted in Mama’s Comfort Camp.  Head on over to HERE to find out how to join.  It’s easy and free!

Happy, Happy Birthday, Mama’s Comfort Camp!  And congratulations to my friend Yael Saar!  What an amazing baby you’ve created!

**legal stuff:  Giveaway closes on March 20th at midnight, EST.  Winner will be chosen using random.org and will be notified via email.  Winner may choose a hard copy or Kindle version of the book.  I am providing this book as a birthday gift to MCC.  I was not compensated for my opinion – I really do just adore Brene Brown!**

Drink Your Beer From A Robot Glass… On My Dime!

9 Nov

I haven’t ever hosted a giveaway before and don’t intend to hold many more, but when I saw this in person, I had to share.  I am lucky to have wonderful in-laws.  And my sister-in-law, Heidi, is no exception.  She’s passionate about style and graphic design, and has a great eye for vintage finds.  And she’s always making gifts for everyone.  One year, for No1’s birthday, she made two felt boards with pockets sewn on the back for all the felt pieces.  And when my oldest was born, she made two newborn outfits, by hand.  Last year for Christmas, she sewed an adorable, zippered smartphone bag and filled it with goodies from Bath and Bodyworks.  I keep it with me all the time.

I just love handmade gifts.  They not only say I know you and what you like but also I spent time on this just for you.

This year for my husband’s birthday she sent these hand-designed and etched pint glasses.

While the were a gift for Hubs, I fell in love with them.  Their simplicity and whimsicality are just lovely.  And just because I adore them and you, I’m giving away a pair!  They could make the perfect gift for the nerd in your life!

To win your very own set of robot pint glasses, head on over to Heidi’s shop, Chic Squirrel Designs. Then come back and tell me what your favorite item is in the comments.  She just moved to a new house, so the listings are short, but she’s hoping to add more items soon, and she’s always up for new ideas.  Entries will be accepted until Friday, November 16th at 2pm.  I’ll draw one comment using random.org and notify the lucky reader by email.  Be sure to leave your real email address with your comment so I can get a hold of you!

And because Heidi’s so amazing, she’s giving all of my readers a coupon code good for 20% off anything in her store!  Just use the code HAPPINESS20 at checkout.

**Disclaimer: Heidi is giving me 50% off a pair of robot glasses to giveaway.  Isn’t she the best?**
